Aiken County Among Best Places for Job Seekers in South Carolina

December 3, 2013
San Francisco, CA (December 3, 2013) – NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, recently conducted a study to find the best places for job seekers in South Carolina – and Aiken County is in the top 10.
As many people continue searching for employment in this recovering economy, NerdWallet wanted to help residents of the Palmetto State find the best places for jobs. To do so, NerdWallet evaluated the state’s counties using the following criteria:
• Median household income
• Monthly homeowner costs
• Population growth of those ages 16 and older
• Unemployment rates
NerdWallet ranked Aiken County as the seventh best place for job seekers in South Carolina. The county experienced a 4.3 percent increase in the working-age population between 2009 and 2011. Key employers contributing to that growth include Savannah River Nuclear Solutions and Shaw AREVA MOX Services.
“Aiken County has a variety of resources to help job seekers, starting at the high school level. The Aiken County Career and Technology Center prepares high school students with essential skills and helps them define their career objectives,” said NerdWallet analyst Annie Wang. “Those out of high school can find job-search and networking opportunities at the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce and the University of South Carolina Aiken, among other places.”
Other places in the top 10 include Richland County and Lexington County. See the full study here.
