Energy Research

Our nation depends on energy research for the present and future. That’s why our region is committed to helping energy research companies succeed through brand new facilities equipped with advanced technologies. We are committed to supporting research processes that may lead us towards a more sustainable future.

Creating New Directions in Energy Research

From sustainable energy to effective healthcare to security at home, our nation is counting on rapid developments of practical new technologies — and groundbreaking research is underway in our region. The Western SC Economic Development Partnership launched the Applied Research Center (ARC) to serve the energy exploration needs of government, academia, and the private sector.

This 60,000-square-foot facility, combining state-of-the-art laboratories and a conference center, is home to many organizations. Researchers at ARC are expanding the limits of solar, wind, hydrogen, and microwave technology, along with other forms of advanced technology such as the capture and commercial marketing of Helium-3 from nuclear reactors.

ARC is also home to the Energy Materials Research Laboratory that is part of the Department of Energy’s Savannah River National Laboratory. We’ve also established a hydrogen refueling station at the Sage Mill Industrial Park for companies located here.

If your organization is focused on finding new answers in energy or practical applications of the newest developments, choosing our region gives you access to many of the world’s most innovative minds.
