The Citadel Ahead of Cybersecurity Threats

With an increasingly technology-based world it seems that the problem of cybersecurity threats is here to stay. Recently a major university in South Carolina has amped up on the importance of cybersecurity and is ensuring its students have the proper training and experience to meet the demands of a growing industry. The Citadel, a military college in Charleston, South Carolina, has recently received a $2.8 million dollar cybersecurity scholarship grant from the National Science Foundation. This grant will be used to train and recruit graduates for a larger cybersecurity workforce and is the largest that The Citadel has ever earned which is already an excellent asset. The CyberCorps Scholarship for Service has been around many years and since 2001 around 3,600 program graduates have found careers at more than 140 government entities. In 2016, the National Security Agency named The Citadel a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. With the highly prestigious award, this makes The Citadel only the second college in the state of South Carolina to receive it, behind the University of South Carolina who was awarded in 2014. It is no secret that The Citadel has been making tremendous strides in the new age of cybersecurity and with a highly awarded program, the university has a bright future ahead in leading the training of young men and women for cyber defense.
