MTU America Hosts Annual Girl’s Day

May 23, 2017

MTU America hosted its fourth annual Girl’s Day at the MTU Aiken Plant.

MTU hosted 80 ninth-grade girls from six Aiken County High Schools to learn about STEM – science, technology, engineering, and math – careers and MTU America.

This annual event teaches young women about manufacturing, a typically male-dominated field.

At this year’s event, attendees had the opportunity to hear directly from women in manufacturing – including Marion Blakey, president of MTU North American – about their education, career paths and about the opportunities that are available for women in manufacturing.

The event included:

• A scavenger hunt tour of the MTU Aiken Plant

• Hands-on experiences building and racing cars made from household items and assembling cylinder head covers

• An introduction to MTU America’s award-winning high school apprenticeship program
